As of today I am at 20% of my fundraising budget! I have really benefitted from the experience of fundraising. There are so many conversations I’ve been able to have with people I would never otherwise have had and I feel like I know everyone I talked to better than before. I wish I could meet up with every single person I wrote to, it really is fun to share with people this new adventure I’ll be starting soon! I haven’t been the only one sharing though, and have gained some real wisdom through other’s advice, experience, and wisdom. Below are many encouraging and helpful reminders those of you I’ve been able to meet with have given me.
Church is support people need after college, even the strongest believer needs something to lean on for encouragement and teaching.
It can be fulfilling to give, and to give of the ‘first fruits’.
Be bold in speech and put the gospel first. The point of all work is to bring Him glory.
Tell people your needs. Specifically.
Never judge a student’s exterior, he may be wondering ‘who will see past my appearance and care about my heart?’.
I may never see the impact I have made on a student.
People don’t convert, the Holy Spirit does.
God always provides, even when you can’t fit the mattress you bought at Ikea into your car, maybe he’ll just send a stranger to drive it for you.
As an Edger I’m not at UCI to be a student. Don’t act like it.
Discouragement is the tool of the enemy.
Freshman: Have a primary value on friendship, love to feel like they’re part of something, let them ask what they want to know.
Keep in mind the stigma of the church and the discluded feelings they can impose.
I can’t be everything, support those I can reach and don’t waste time being cool.
Thank-you!
